Cutback 2025 Before After

Local residents turn out for the RA-organised cutback of the vegetation overgrowth around Milbourne Pond.

In what is now an annual event, many local residents in Weston Green came forward on Sunday 2nd November to help clear out the excessive plant growth of mainly brambles and pussy willow around Milbourne Pond.

Milbourne Pond was restored back in 2018 in a project spearheaded by the RA.  It involved reprofiling it to tap into an underlying aquifer, thereby maintaining a depth of water in the pond throughout the year.  Prior to this, the pond had deteriorated every Summer to a dry depression.

The surrounding vegetation certainly appreciated the restoration, and has grown back with increasing vigour each year - especially so with the warm Summer we have just had.  So the Autumn cutback has become very important to keep the area accessible for all to enjoy.  Without this, it would soon become inaccessible, and we are very grateful for the hard work that residents have put in.  Elmbridge Borough Council have agreed to clear away all the cuttings.
