Title: Post Office
Post by: Deborah on February 05, 2013, 07:04:29 PM
Does anyone know why it's been closed for the past two days?

Oh noooooooooo - not the post office.  The life blood of village.

I have a package to pick up and called and apparently their systems are down.
If the TD Post Office is our life blood we are in trouble.
I can't actually think of a more depressing retail space myself.

There is strong demand for a post office in TD - when it is open there is a long queue. But they are very unreliable and are often closed at times when they are supposed to be open. They give any number of excuses ... Broadband connection failure, computer failure and their perennial excuse, the family funeral. When the Post Office last reviewed sub-branches, many of us swung behind TD post office and voiced support to ensure it was not axed, but I don't think our loyalty has been rewarded.

I went there today to pay my VED and there was a piece of paper saying their broadband was down and they were waiting for an engineer.

You can't actually get VED at Hinchley Wood - it's the sort of thing when you do it online once the business is lost forever.

I can't understand how they can have lost their broadband for so long - surely a post office does thousands in turnover every day and must be a priority. Hundreds of people must rely on that office - it's effectively our last bank.

UPDATE - I read something by Craig saying they were genuinely having broadband problems. Have they opened again?

Meanwhile, the Post Office in Hinchley Wood is closed until Monday as the whole shop is rebranding from SPAR to Budgen's.

I got quite excited when I read the Post Office Shop's entry in the programme of events for the Summer Fair: "Newly refurbished and newly stocked, confectionary counter & cold drinks".

Has the refurbishment been delayed? It looks that same as ever except for a new sweet stand.

Is the shop part of the PO under new management? It definitely looks much better with the painted floor.
