Title: Ashley Road Car Park - New Supermarket
Post by: BlueSky on December 15, 2013, 11:16:34 PM
I have just comeback from holiday and just popped into the Ahsley Road Car Park and it's entirely empty at 10pm!! No wonder the council may be selling.

Can someone explain to me, why there is a car park there?

Why doesn't anyone use it and who does use it?  (Can local business or commuters get monthly discounts)

When the pedestrian pathway will open?

I've heard there are plans within the council to sell to a supermarket store, is this true? (This may or may not be a good thing)

Additional parking will be created on the roof/basement and there is some additional apparently behind the houses?

Where did you hear this rumour?

I think they would struggle with a basement  & and there would be enormous opposition to a roof carpark if it was even within the planning constraints.

Don't rise to it Craig.  Sure it's the usual Bluesky ridiculousness.

A car park empty at 10pm ... on a Sunday night ?

Hmm one that is used by visitors to the high st etc

Who would have thunk it?

You're right - the council should definately sell it!

Whilst they are at it they should do a round up and check all the supermarket and stores car parks. Any empty ones should also be sold.

Use it or lose it !!!

Lol, it's good to know Ashley Road car park is being discussed amongst the upper echelons of government.

And exactly what will happen??

IF the car park is ever sold, which it certainly could be, it would be worth much more as residential development. I can't imagine under any circumstances a concrete monolith (with the additional of scenic roof top parking)being built in the heart of a conservation area.... anywhere! If its sold it will be housing...

It's right up there with Syria and runway expansion ;)

Rudi - the planners won't give change of use for residential, the area needs a supermarket and employment generation.
