Title: Allotment @ Hampton Court Way
Post by: Juninho on February 02, 2011, 11:02:55 AM
This is a long shot - but I don't suppose anyone here has an allotment on Hampton Court Way? And can advise if there are any spaces to rent / whom to contact there?

I stumbled on this: http://www.hcwaa.co.uk/location.htm

And it would be ideal for us as very close to our house but I have emailed the person on the contact list and not had anything back?

So guessing they must be full? Or perhaps I should give it some more time (Im so impatient! - only emailed them on Monday!).

Are there any other allotments in Thames Ditton? I assume they are probably gold dust!

There are some at Lynwood (off Claygate Lane) - bit further for you.  Search the groups page for 'allotment' or check any issue of TD Today.

You could always do some guerilla farming on the Jolly Boatman site!..or the Home of Compassion - there's even a greenhouse

I have heard that the Hampton Court Way Allotment  Association currently has no waiting list !

......and are keen for people with time and commitment to join the ranks of friendly 'allotmenteers' over there. There are full (30x8m) plots and half-plots.

See HCWAA Lettings Contact details on www.hcwaa.co.uk or through Facebook on http://www.facebook.com/groups/76968190408/?ref=ts&fref=ts

This is also the case at Sugden Road allotments.  It seems that it might be a general phenomenon, curious given the price of veg in the shops, the exercise and good fellowship to be had on allotments.  HonSec of the Sugden Rd allotments, Pam Bannister, wonders whether it might be partly due to people downsizing to half or even a quarter plot if they're having problems keeping up with maintaining them.  Or maybe that people who might like to apply haven't done so because they think there is a long waiting list and they'll never get one.

Recreation time eh? I remember when I used to have that!!

I'll mention it to the OH - but I am guessing she will not be so keen now !  We actually did get offered one but she was a bit daunted as it was a 'half' but it was still very big!! I think the way forward might be to take on a whole slot but between 5/6 people... !

In case anyone is interested in allotments - I had an email from Piotr Hennig as he is tidying up the allotment waiting list and wanted to know if we were still interested.

Sadly - the OH has decided its too much work for now so we have removed ourselves from the list but if anyone is keen then do get in touch with him.

The email address is in Shamwari's post above.
