Water, water everywhere ... continued ...

High Street awash

Dawn in the high Street The water poured along Station Road and flooded the High Street. Premises below street level were badly flooded. The photo by Andy Anderson shows the scene at dawn.

Villagers were remarkably good-humoured and pragmatic, despite their serious setbacks. There was some good fortune: the waters reached only the front doormat of View Gallery, where many irreplaceable paintings were stacked overnight on the floor prior to being photographed. Koi carp who attempted to escape to the Thames from a garden pond in Boyle Farm Road may also have counted themselves fortunate, although a fireman was seen netting some absconders.

School's out!

The Infants' School grounds were flooded and we understand there is a question over whether foul water bubbled up as well - the school may be closed for two or more days while hygiene checks are made.

The Junior School and Esher College also had to take a decision to close for the day, as access was restricted although the premises themselves were not flooded.
